When we talk about technology, we focus on the benefits of algorithms and automation, efficiency and scale. But we often neglect to investigate how it might impact our lives, our cultures, and our planet — or if it can enrich our souls.

Emotion Network, an Italian-led global platform of thinkers, entrepreneurs, and investors, seeks to change that. The organization advocates for ethical, emotioned-centered tech designed to empower human potential and to create a more righteous world. The best place to learn that, says founder Mattia Mor, is Italy.

“Italy is where humanism was born. It’s where the Renaissance was born. It’s a center of creativity, craftsmanship, intentional capitalism, and cultural sustainability,” Mattia explained. “These values are part of the Italian soul and can help us navigate this century’s challenges. We want to share ‘our compass’ with the world.”

Emotion Network plans to share compelling stories about innovation, sustainability, and human potential through their six-part Tech.Emotion docuseries, co-created with Facebook, where global luminaries share their insights and values with Italian hosts.

The series features conversations with Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Salesforce founder and CEO Marc Benioff, Rent the Runway co-founder and CEO Jennifer Hyman, chef Massimo Bottura, track and field athlete Fiona May, and writer Alessandro Baricco, among others. It also includes a precious cameo of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Emotion Network is also planning a flagship summit, Tech.Emotion, that will foster discussion around technology’s role in and responsibility to society. Speakers include author and former Senior Advisor for Innovation to Hillary Clinton Alec Ross, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, Eataly founder Oscar Farinetti, the architect and designer Patricia Urquiola, and designer and avowed humanist Brunello Cucinelli. The two-day event, hosted in Milan in partnership with Italian luxury brand Prada and others, is slated for March 2022 and is designed to expose a diverse set of global founders, investors, corporates, and partners to Italy’s cultural and creative heritage.

Emotion Network founding partner Claude Finckenberg hopes that the connections forged at Tech.Emotion will bolster the European start-up ecosystem and catalyze investment across countries.

“Right now the European start-up ecosystem is unfolding on a country-by-country basis, and companies rely on either local investors or investors from outside Europe for funding,” Claude explained. “It would be great if through Tech.Emotion, we could connect European start-up ecosystems, establish cross border investment, and help European companies to grow.”

Mattia Mor agrees. “We are eager to bring together founders, corporates, CEOs, and institutions for a deep discussion about investments in technology and innovation that can empower human potential,” he said. “I am sure that what we’re doing is a powerful driver to nurture connections between European states and global investors as they build businesses and invest in technologies that create a better world, pursuing consistency to the SDGs.”

Emotion Network was founded by a group of entrepreneurs and investors in love with Italy and technology — Mattia Mor, Gianluca D’Agostino, Karin Fischer, Massimo Redaelli, Claude Finckenberg, Thomas Schneider, and Alec Ross.
